The living example is Mahendra Kalantri who has strived hard to achieve success with perseverance and hard work. Born on October 6, 1961 in Kolkata, capital of West Bengal, his father Mr. Lakshminarayan Kalantri was a businessman of textiles machinery and who with hard work and his brothers and outside partners started a Shoddy yarn Manufacturing Plant in Mumbai. At the age of just two months Mahendra moved to Mumbai since the family roots were in Mumbai. Mahendra’s childhood and education were in Mumbai. Having studied in New Model Infant School till the 4th Standard and then in St. Xaviers Boys’ Academy till SSC, Mahendra did his 11th grade in New Era School and 12th grade from K. C College. Mahendra then joined SASMIRA, Worli and did DIPLOMA in Knitting Technology (DKT) and Certificate course in weaving of Man-Made Fibre Fabrics.
Towards 1983, Mahendra fully got involved in his father's business and within a year handled the import consignments of the Company. In the meanwhile, his younger brother Kailash Kalantri who had passed out with flying colours from D Y PATIL Engineering College, Pimpri had gone abroad for further studies and started Acclaim Systems in USA. Looking at the boom in software industry, Kailash started “Acclaim System (India) Pvt. Ltd.” with Mahendra as Director. Mahendra started “Acclaim Mega Structures Pvt. Ltd.” having activity in fields like Project Development, Slum Development, Estate and Finance Advisory.
The country's economy is driven by ports. Water transport and cargo through the country. Keeping in mind Mahendra started Dighi Port development with his Uncle in 1998. The port is being developed by Balaji Infra Projects Limited (BIPL). It’s the first joint venture project of the Maharashtra government and private companies in the Prot Sector. Mahendra Kalntri was the promoter Director from 1998 to 2005 and as Director made significant contributions. Good relationship with the Government helped in faster development.
Mahendra resigned as Director from Dighi Port Ltd in 2005. Mahendra is member of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tanzania Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Industries Accommodation India, Indo-American Society, The Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce – Agriculture & Industries, Chamber Education Council of India, All India Human Rights Association, Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Council of for Free and Fair World Trade India, Council Business Practice for Fair, World Trade Center, etc.
Business as well as a deep interest in social work is Mahendra ‘s inspiration that he received from his uncle. Mahendra takes time off from the business functions of various institutions for social, educational and developmental activities. Mahendra’s was the President of Lions Club of Vakola, Roraract Club of Bombay Midwest, Jt. Secretary of Juhu Junior Chamber, member of Interact Club of St. Xavier Boys academy, all India Advisor of Bhartiya Vishwakarma Janhit Sewa Samiti, South Mumbai Chief of All India Human Rights Association.
